Atlanta nonprofit signs lease with MARTA, Columbia Ventures to bring youth dance center to Edgewood

“Last Wednesday, Atlanta nonprofit Moving in the Spirit signed a 99-year ground lease with MARTA and Columbia Ventures to build a new facility at the Edgewood/Candler Park transit-oriented development (TOD), MARTA confirmed.

Founded in Atlanta in 1986, Moving in the Spirit is a creative youth developmental dance program for children and teens ages 3-18, according to a Moving in the Spirit press release.

Phase II of the Edgewood/Candler Park TOD will feature Moving in the Spirit’s new facility, which will double the organization’s capacity from 250 to 500 students. …”

Here Now, New Visuals for 4 MARTA Transit Developments

MARTA has launched a new website called coUrbanize to allow Atlantans to track the progress of the new transit-oriented developments (TODs) envisioned across the system. At the moment, four stations have concrete plans for massive new mixed-use developments. Parking lots and vacant land around Avondale, Brookhaven, Chamblee and Edgewood/Candler Park stations will gain offices, retail, residential, civic buildings and even park space. The Edgewood/Candler Park project is expected to break ground first; Columbia Ventures filed for permits last fall to start building along La France Street…
