Before/after: MARTA parking lots transformed into 350 homes, more

Now finished, Edgewood-Candler Park station overhaul includes public park, retail, offices, and performance academy for kids

Prior to 2016, approaching MARTA’s Edgewood-Candler Park station from the south meant encountering a sea of weedy asphalt parking lots, where only about one in three parking spaces was being used by transit customers each day.

Today, it’s a drastically different urban scenario—and quite possibly a preview of things to come throughout sections of Atlanta reached by the heavy rail system.

Vin ATL Wineshop and Tasting Room Slated to Open in Edgewood

Weekly wine tastings, plenty of varietals, and outdoor live music coming soon.

Dwight Cunningham is bringing Vin ATL, a wine shop and tasting room, to Edgewood, at 1454 La France Street, the Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported.

“We do not have a confirmed opening date, as we are waiting for permitting from the city to begin construction,” Cunningham told What Now Atlanta in an email Monday. “Our hope is to open in late spring.”

Cunningham co-founded the Roswell Wine Festival in 2012. And then in March 2020, he seized the opportunity of having extra time during the pandemic to focus on a business plan for a wine shop.

“We are creating a mid-century modern environment, with seating up to 15 indoors with additional outside seating,” Cunningham said. “In addition, we will have a record player and vinyl for customers to play while shopping or enjoying a flight.”

During Vin ATL’s wine tastings, customers can try flights before purchasing a bottle or two. Each flight consists of three, three-ounce tastes, and there will be six to eight flights available.

MARTA’s mixed-use redo in Edgewood scores restaurant, wine bar

Meanwhile, the final transit-oriented apartment component predicts winter delivery

Five years after MARTA’s first transit-oriented development broke ground in Atlanta, the totality of how the project will look and function is coming into focus.

Columbia Ventures officials tell Urbanize Atlanta two food-and-beverage operators have signed leases for retail space in the heart of the multifaceted, 6.3-acre TOD along the southern rim of the Edgewood/Candler Park MARTA station.
