Jake von Trapp, Co-Founder and Partner

As a partner at Columbia Ventures, Jake von Trapp is primarily responsible for development management and project execution.  Von Trapp leverages his experience in urban infill multifamily development and his background in complex mixed-finance transactions to allow the firm to structure favorable unconventional financing structures that maximize risk-adjusted returns while positively impacting the neighborhoods in which they operate.

Von Trapp has spent his entire career working in the multifamily real estate industry specializing in LIHTC financed transactions.  He previously worked at Columbia Residential as a development manager where he was responsible for managing the entire spectrum of the real estate development process, completing more than 3,000 units across five communities totaling $168 million during his tenure. His responsibilities included the largest LIHTC transaction in U.S. History, Columbia Parc at the Bayou District (columbiaparc.com) in New Orleans, LA.  This 52-acre master planned public housing revitalization, which includes almost 700 mixed-income multifamily units, an Educare early childhood education center, a 2-acre park and garden and 50,000 square feet of retail, has won numerous national awards including the 2011 National Association of Homebuilders – Pillars of the Industry, Multifamily Community of the Year.

Prior to Columbia von Trapp spent two years working for the national tax credit syndicator, Boston Capital, as a financial analyst in their Structured Finance group in Boston.  He was responsible for the pricing of LIHTC transactions as well as the structuring and sale of their multi-investor and proprietary tax credit funds.

Von Trapp holds a Masters degree in Real Estate Development (MSRED) from the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  He also holds a Certificate in Real Estate Finance from Boston University and a BS in Finance from Boston College.  He is member of the Urban Land Institute and a 2012 graduate of the ULI Atlanta Center for Leadership.
